1) Lilla Cabot Perry, born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 13, 1848 to February 28, 1933 (aged 85), was an American artist who worked in the American Impressionist style.
2) She traveled with her parents in 1867 to Europe, where she studied painting. She completed what is considered to be her earliest known painting, Portrait of an Infant dating from 1877 to 1878.
3) This work draws on the inspiration that would occupy much of her artwork throughout her career: her children. In 1884, she began her formal artistic training with painter Alfred Quinton Collins.
4) There is a distinct shift observed in Perry's work after she arrived in Giverny. She went from traditional techniques to carefully render the subjects to an impressionistic in style with free form.
5) Her blending of eastern & western aesthetics offered significant stylistic contributions. Her vocal advocacy for the Impressionist movement also helped to make it possible for other Impressionists.
6) Her work has selected exhibitions including: Tokyo Exhibition in 1898, The Guild of Boston Artists in 1929 & 1931, Women in Paris 1850 to 1900, traveling exhibition in 2018, and many others.
