1) Man Ray, born Emmanuel Radnitzky; August 27, 1890 to November 18, 1976 (age 86), was an American visual artist who spent most of his career in Paris.

2) He was a significant contributor to the Dada and Surrealist movements, although his ties to each were informal. He produced major works in a variety of media but considered himself a painter above all

3) He was best known for his pioneering photography, and he was a renowned fashion and portrait photographer. He is also noted for his work with photograms, which he called "rayographs" in reference.

4) The Second World War forced Man Ray to return from Paris to the United States. He lived in Los Angeles from 1940 to 1951 where he focused his creative energy on painting.

5) On 11/092017, Man Ray's Noire et Blanche (1926) was purchased at Christie's Paris for 2,688,750 euros (3,120,658 US dollars) becoming the 14th most expensive photograph to ever sell at auction.

6) In March 2013, Man Ray's photograph Noire et Blanche (1926) was featured in the US Postal Service's "Modern Art in America" series of stamps.
