Wall 1

1) Edison was born on February 11, 1847, in Milan, Ohio. He was the youngest of seven children of Samuel and Nancy Edison.

2) An early bout with scarlet fever as well as ear infections left Edison with hearing difficulties in both ears as a child and nearly deaf as an adult.

3) In 1866, at age 19, Edison moved to Louisville, Kentucky, to work for The Associated Press. The night shift allowed him to spend most of his time reading and experimenting.

4) In 1869, at 22 years old, Edison moved to New York City and developed his first invention, an improved stock ticker called the Universal Stock Printer.

5) While Edison was not the inventor of the first light bulb, he came up with the technology that helped bring it to the masses.

6) Edison died on October 18, 1931, from complications of diabetes in his home, Glenmont, in West Orange, New Jersey. He was 84 years old.
