Wall 1
1) Grant was born Hiram Ulysses Grant on April 27, 1822, in Point Pleasant, Ohio, near the mouth of the Big Indian Creek at the Ohio River.
2) Grant didn not excel at West Point, earning average grades and receiving several demerits for slovenly dress and tardiness, and ultimately decided that the academy had no charms for him.
3) Ulysses S. Grant was entrusted with the command of all U.S. armies in 1864 and relentlessly pursued the enemy during the Civil War.
4) Grant saw the military objectives of the Civil War differently than most of his predecessors, who believed that capturing territory was most important to winning the war.
5) Grant adamantly believed that taking down the Confederate armies was most important to the war effort, and to that end, set out to track down and destroy General Robert E Lee.
6) He became a president after the civil war and tried to unite the country however his presidency was plagued with scandals. He died poor but secured a good estate for his wife by writing his memos.
